My Blog

My mission is to spread the truth of Jesus Christ. What is truth? Truth is something I believe AND it is actually true. Lots of people today talk about personal truth (subjective truth). Unless what they believe is actually true then it’s not truth. Truth is not SUBJECTIVE.

Foul Mouthed Christianity - Is Cussing Ok?

Nov/27/07 04:22 Filed in: Emergent Church Christian Life
prfntysm
I have been dialoging with some interesting so called Christians who have a very twisted view of scripture and what it means to be a Christian. They write and say that they feel it is perfectly fine to use foul and degrading language. Most of these gentleman are part of the emergent church and claim to be living their lives like Christ commanded. But instead of their "cool" worldliness they are going directly against the Word of God. I would like to address the topic of our language and how we speak and what we speak represents to the world who Christ is in us. Is it ok for a Christian to walk around using 4 letter words, is that being a good ambassador of Christ? Read More...

MOB Lesson 12 Genesis 20:1-21:34 - Part 1

Nov/25/07 08:08 Filed in: MOB Bible Study
genesis20SM
This week we will be studying through Genesis 20:1-18 and answering questions 1-3 on pages 133-135.

Here are a few commentaries from Matthew Henry.

Genesis 20:1-2

Here is, 1. Abraham's removal from Mamre, where he had lived nearly twenty years, into the country of the Philistines: He sojourned in Gerar, Gen_20:1. We are not told upon what occasion he removed, whether terrified by the destruction of Sodom, or because the country round was for the present prejudiced by it, or, as some of the Jewish writers say, because he was grieved at Lot's incest with his daughters, and the reproach which the Canaanites cast upon him and his religion, Read More...

Emergent Church - Roger Oakland - Faith Undone

Roger Oakland gives an outstanding presentation on the emergent church. After watching this video my heart becomes burdensome for the lost who are buying into this false form of Christianity. I highly suggest watching through the whole thing because it will give you a much deeper understanding how the emergent church is attacking Christianity and making a mockery of God's Word.

Here is a statement from Roger on the emergent church.

In the not-too-distant future, most evangelical pastors will have to decide whether to support or reject the spirituality behind the emerging church. If this movement continues unfolding at the present pace, mainstream Christianity will be completely restructured, and the biblical gospel of Jesus Christ will be considered obsolete. If I believed for one minute that this movement was just another passing whim or the discontent rumblings that so often occur with young people as they search for answers to life, I would never have written this book.

My Utmost for His Highest - Galatians 2:20

Nov/13/07 10:13 Filed in: Bible Study
utmostSM
Galatians 2:20 is a verse I have committed to memory. My desire is to be done with the "I" but how hard is it to live it 24x7 365 days a year being completely dead to myself and alive in Christ. How many times does the "I" try to rear its ugly head and steal my joy in Christ. So why do we even bother to die to ourselves? Why try to be a godly man or women? Why try to do what is right? Because He loved me and gave Himself on my behalf.

He gave Himself for me, a sinner, who hated Him and rebelled against Him. I owe Him everything because He laid down His life so I could live. I can't even comprehend it at times. It is just too much for me to understand His love, mercy and grace but I am so thankful for what He has done.

Below is one of the devotions from Oswald Chambers in his book "My Utmost for His Highest". I have found it a blessing today and wanted to share it. He convicts me of my attitude and my lack of utter gratefulness to my Lord and Savior at times. To many times the "I" comes out with what Wes wants.

MOB Lesson 11 Genesis 18:1-19:38 - Part 4

Nov/11/07 08:53 Filed in: MOB Bible Study
LotSM
This week we will be wrapping up lesson 11 in Genesis 19. Please answer questions 14-16 on pages 130-131 for this weeks study. I know we didn't finish everything last week so we will be catching up a bit.

One thing I want to note about this study and that is if anyone thinks that the Bible is a bunch of made up stories I would contest that with the story of Lot. It shows a real ugly side of a righteous man. I mean if this was all made up would we put this kind of horrible sin as a representative of someone being a righteous man? The bible is definitely not condoning what Lot did but is recording history as accurately as possible. Who's kind of righteousness should we be following after? Lot or Abraham? Look at their lives and how each turned out. I will opt for the life of Abraham and follow God in obedience instead of trying to flirt with the world like Lot did.

If anyone has more to add please do! Thanks!

John Piper - Future of Justification - Free Download

Nov/07/07 02:36 Filed in: Theology

John Piper has just released his new book on justification. I have read the first 24 pages of his book and as usual Piper is right on the money with his exegesis of scripture. Piper is addressing specifically the latest books of N. T. Wright and the "new" views on Paul's writings. I don't have a full grasp of Wrights ideas but here are a list of 8 issues that Piper addresses in the introduction.

  1. The Gospel Is Not about How to Get Saved?
  2. Justification Is Not How You Become a Christian?
  3. Justification Is Not the Gospel?
  4. We Are Not Justified by Believing in Justification?
  5. The Imputation of God’s Own Righteousness Makes No Sense At All?
  6. Future Justification Is on the Basis of the Complete Life Lived?
  7. First-century Judaism Had Nothing of the Alleged Self-Righteous and Boastful Legalism?
  8. God’s Righteousness Is the Same as His Covenant Faithfulness?

Divorce is Not an Option

Nov/06/07 11:21 Filed in: Christian Life Marriage
marriaeringssm
I just want to put this very bluntly, divorce is not an option for any Christian. My friend and I were discussing if there is any valid reason for getting a divorce and there is only one instance of were God allows divorce and this particular situation does not happen in our culture today. My friend found this great article written by Thomas M. Strouse, Prof. of Theology on The Bible, Marriage and Divorce.

Now we as men and women can come up with lots of excuses why we should be able to divorce, but God's plan is for no one to separate a man and women. We may find ourselves in some very difficult situations with our husband/wives but God's word is very clear on this issue. I also can look at Genesis 2 and see the original plan for marriage that we should strive for and there is nothing in Genesis that says men cleave to your wife unless... Nope it is until death. Take a read of this article it is excellent. I would be curious to know if anyone disagrees with this or not.

MOB Lesson 11 Genesis 18:1-19:38 - Part 3

SodomGomorrahsm
This weeks lesson will cover chapter 19 of Genesis. We will be answering questions 10-13 on pages 127-130.

This chapter is one ugly chapter for man and really reveals how messed up things can get. What keeps going through my mind is why God spared Lot. Lot is one interesting biblical character. I don't see a lot of holiness and righteousness in his behavior. But what does Peter say about Lot? Peter writes in 2 Peter Chapter 2:6-8

if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked 8 (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard)
