My Blog

My mission is to spread the truth of Jesus Christ. What is truth? Truth is something I believe AND it is actually true. Lots of people today talk about personal truth (subjective truth). Unless what they believe is actually true then it’s not truth. Truth is not SUBJECTIVE.

Cherish and Nourish

Feb/28/07 06:40 Filed in: Bible Study Marriage
More of my thoughts from our men’s bible study in Genesis.

Paul states in Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

This is also reinforced when God first established the marriage covenant and the responsibility God has given to men to be spiritual leaders in the home and how to love and take care of their wives.

In Genesis 2:21-23 the Bible says:
21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
      “This is now bone of my bones
      And flesh of my flesh;
      She shall be called Woman,
      Because she was taken out of Man.”

I like that the bone was taken from his side (ribs) and that women can come along side of man as a helper. This has a huge responsibility attached to it. That as men we are to take care of her like we take care of our own flesh. If we think about our wives in that sense how great should we take care of them and love them.

If we circle back to Ephesians 5:29-31 God through Paul gives further explanation how we should treat our wives and makes a reference back to Genesis.

29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the stwo shall become one flesh.”

I am called by God to cherish and nourish my wife like my own body. Wow what responsibilities we have as men who follow Christ. We have a great responsibility in caring for our wives and how important God views our relationship with them. It’s not easy to follow all the time but through Christ we can meet the challenge.
