Praying Thru the Tabernacle

There are two things that the enemy really hates
followers of Christ to be caught doing. The first
is reading God’s love letter to us, the Bible. The
second thing he hates is when we are on our knees
talking with our Father in heaven.
The disciples asked Jesus specifically how should they pray to the Father in Luke 11:1
1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”
Jon Courson has a great little book, Praying Thru The Tabernacle, which mirrors Christ instruction in prayer. It is a great little tool to walk through the tabernacle and remember what to pray for as we are talking with our Father. I find it invaluable to remember more of what and who I should be praying for. When I go through the list and just spend 2 or 3 minutes on each area I have now spent at least 15 minutes praying to our God. It is amazing how fast it goes and it has blessed me in so many ways. Here they are:
The Gate
Thank God for what He does
The Courtyard
Praise God for who He is
The Brass Altar
Confess specific sins and confess that you are forgiven
The Brass Laver
Let the Lord speak to you through a verse or two of Scripture
The Table of Showbread
Talk to the Lord about personal needs
The Golden Candlestick
Pray for ministers and missionaries - for all who shine God’s light
The Altar of Incense
Pray for your family, friends, and enemies
The Holy of Holies
Worship the Lord with a heart in tune with His presence
The book is very small at only 71 pages and can be read quickly. Here is a link to purchase it for a cheap 6 bucks. (click the book)
This small, but powerful book reveals a Biblical model for prayer that is both practical and effective.
This model is based on the Old Testament picture of the Tabernacle. In the Tabernacle, there are several different objects that were used by the priests in their ministry to the Lord. Each one of these objects also speaks of a particular aspect of prayer. Taken together they form a complete and effective model of prayer for us.
